IV. CLEANING THE LC JET

After every treatment, a small amount of medication will remain in the nebulizer. If allowed to remain there, this small amount of medication could contaminate the next treatment or clog the nozzle of the nebulizer and cause it to malfunction.

WARNING:

To reduce the risk of infection from contamination, you must thoroughly clean all parts of the nebulizer as instructed after each treatment.

Never use the nebulizer with a clogged nozzle. If the nozzle is clogged, it will alter the effectiveness of the treatment by changing the airflow and delivery of the medication. Replace the entire LC Jet (part # 22-60) if clogging occurs.

1 . Remove tubing and mouthpiece from nebulizer.

2. Remove top of nebulizer by twisting the top counterclockwise and lifting.

3. Wash all parts of the nebulizer with warm water and liquid dish soap.

4. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and shake out water.

5. Dry inside and outside of nebulizer parts with a clean, lint-free cloth.

6. Reassemble LC Jet when completely dry. To. attach top of nebulizer to bottom of nebulizer, insert top into bottom with the nebulizer semi-circle (2) facing the nebulizer outlet. Twist top clockwise to lock in place.

All parts of the LC Jet (except tubing) can also be cleaned in a dishwasher. Place on the dishwasher's top rack. Remove from dishwasher promptly and air dry on a paper towel. Do not leave nebulizer parts in the dishwasher to dry. Mold growth may occur.

V. DISINFECTING AND STERILIZING THE LC JET

WARNING:

To reduce the risk of infection:

a. The nebulizer is intended for single patient use (one person) only. Do not share your nebulizer with other patients.

b. You must regularly disinfect or sterilize the nebulizer between treatments. Failure to do so could lead to serious or fatal illness.

1 . Clean the nebulizer as instructed in the preceding section on "Cleaning the LC Jet".

2. Every second (2nd) treatment day, soak all parts of the LC Jet nebulizer (except tubing and interrupter) in a solution of one part distilled vinegar and three parts hot tap water for 1 hour. You can substitute respiratory equipment disinfectants (like Control 111) for distilled vinegar (follow manufacturer's instructions for mixing).

3. Rinse all parts of the nebulizer thoroughly with hot tap water.

Note: Alternatively, all parts of the LC Jet Nebulizer (except the tubing) can be sterilized by boiling them in water for 10 minutes or, for hospitals, by autoclaving for 10 minutes at 277 º F (follow manufacturer instruction).

 4. Dry with clean, lint-free cloth.

 S. Reassemble the LC jet when completely dry (see Section IV for assembly instruction).
